Five surfers paddling out together at first light, mountains behind them.

Clear Mornings

Hard things are hard to do alone.

Ocean trips without drinking at the center. Stays and experiences where the people around you came for the water, and want the same mornings you do.

A week on the coast, planned around the water instead of the bar.

Most surf towns run on the same evening. The session ends, the beers come out, and the next morning starts late. That is fine until you are the one trying not to join in.

Clear Mornings is for the other version of the trip. You do not have to explain your reasons to anyone. Some people come after years without a drink. Some are taking a month off. Some sleep better and surf earlier without it. Everyone at the table chose the same week.

A day, roughly

What the days are made of.

  1. 05:40First light. Coffee on the step, wax, and a quiet paddle out with people who were up when you were.
  2. 08:00Breakfast long enough to talk through every wave.
  3. 11:00A second session, a dive, or a walk along the point with the host.
  4. 15:00The slow part of the day. A book, a nap, the ding you meant to fix.
  5. 18:00Sunset session, or the beach with everyone else.
  6. 21:00Dinner, then sleep. The swell is better in the morning.

How it works

01

Each place says what it is.

Some places will be alcohol free all season. Others will set aside dates or trips. You will know which before you reach out.

02

You talk to the host directly.

Same as everywhere in KŌLVA. You plan the stay with the people who run it, and they keep what you pay.

03

Nobody checks on you.

KŌLVA does not track, test, or supervise anyone. The agreement is between the guests and the place.

Where it stands

Clear Mornings is new. We are finding the first places now.

There are no Clear Mornings stays to book yet. We are talking with hosts, and with people who have traveled sober, about where it worked for them. If you run a place or an ocean experience that could fit, tell us about it.

Clear Mornings is a travel community. It is not a treatment program. If you need support with alcohol, talk to a doctor or a local support service.
